Almost everyone who grew up in the United States was taught about the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, but people often overlook the time period that elapsed between the writing of the Declaration and the ratification of the Constitution. What did American government look like in these intervening years? How did the lessons of that time period influence the eventual shape of the Constitution?
If these questions interest you, you won’t want to miss the upcoming class that the Freedom Center’s Dave Roland will be teaching between 10-2 pm at the Church of the Open Door in Macon, Missouri, on Saturday, February 19. Dave will discuss the Articles of Confederation, the tensions among the states in the earliest years of the Republic, the challenges of drafting a national constitution that would be acceptable to all the competing interests, and the nationwide debate about whether the Constitution should be ratified.
